School board elects new chair, vice chair

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County Board of Education elected a new chairman and vice-chairman at the Jan. 13 work session. 

Robby Pitts was elected to replace Mary Beth Watson, who had served four years as chairman. Dede Megahee-Hall was elected as vice-chairman.

Pitts has been a member of the Colquitt County Board of Education since January 2015 and has served as vice chairman since 2016. He has a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Education (History/English), has served two years active duty and four years reserve in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and is vice-president/partner at AMB Investments, where he has been employed for 20 years. 

He and wife Shannon have six children — Lorianna Weathers of Vermont, Vann Pitts of Hahira, Quint Pitts at Georgia Tech, Landon Rehberg serving the US Navy in Norfolk, Va., Linzee Carlton of Moultrie and Tucker Pitts in the 11th grade at Colquitt County High School. They have two grandchildren and one on the way.  

“I am humbled to be serving our community as the Colquitt County Board of Education chairman,” Pitts said. “I hope to continue the legacy of leadership of those that came before me.”

Megahee-Hall has been a member of the Colquitt County Board of Education since January 2017. She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, with degrees in English, Library Science, Counseling and Ed Leadership. She has worked in education for 36 years — 32 in Colquitt County, two in Cook County — and presently works part-time as the Career and Technical Education Director in Turner County. 

Megahee-Hall is married to Greg Hall, video teacher at CCHS, and has three children — Ty Megahee, assistant baseball coach at the University of Pittsburg, Josi Lewis, counselor at Pelham High School, and Tanner Megahee, commercial loan officer at AgGeorgia Farm Credit in Moultrie — and two step-children, Jonathan Hall, a television and movie set dresser in Atlanta, and Daniel Hall, owner and CEO of Where It’s Greater in Los Angeles. They have six grandchildren, all under the age of 6.

“I am honored to serve as vice-chairman of the Board of Education,” Megahee-Hall said, “and I hope I will serve my constituents and fellow board members well. I love Norman Park School. I attended first through 12th grade there and am proud to say I graduated as a mighty Trojan. I’m happy to serve this school and community where I still live.”
