MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County’s domestic violence shelter will hold its annual Daddy Daughter Dance benefit on Saturday, Feb. 2, moving to a larger venue to handle the growing number of participants.

The benefit for Serenity House will be held from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at Southern Regional Technical College.

“It’s one of our biggest fund-raisers of the year,” said Haley Clark, executive director at the shelter. “We use the monies for general operations. We also try to set some aside for maintenance of the facility.”

Serenity House, which began operations in May 2002, also provides financial assistance for victims to help them become self-sufficient after their stay at the shelter, she said, and some of the proceeds may go toward that purpose.

Food will be provided by Moultrie Junior Woman’s Club and catering by Moultrie Federated Guild, and Sterling Physician Group also is a sponsor for the event.

Clark, who took the reins in September, said the shelter has been at or close to full capacity since her tenure began.

Tickets for the dance are $35 and may be purchased at all three Moultrie Ameris Bank locations and Crystal Pharmacy, 705 S. Main St. Tickets for each additional daughter are $10, and photos begin at 5 p.m.

For additional information, contact Serenity House at (229) 782-5394 or Kristi Griffin at (229) 921-4000.

“We definitely want all the support we can get from the community,” Clark said. “If we didn’t have that, this place couldn’t run.”

Residents can make a contribution to the shelter by mail at Serenity House, P.O. Box 14, Moultrie, GA 31776. Donations also can be made by calling the shelter or dropping them off at the Chamber of Commerce.
