MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man who nearly collided with an unmarked Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office car was arrested Thursday on felony obstruction and other charges after a struggle with several officers.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Nathan Cato said that the car driven by Lee James Lassetter nearly collided with his car at about 5:14 p.m. as Lassetter crossed Veterans Parkway South at the intersection of Lane Street. A Moultrie Police Department officer later arrived to assist.

“I turned around and conducted a traffic stop in the Wal-Mart parking lot,” he said. “He had a warrant from Tift County. While we were trying to get him into custody he started a fight.”

While the two officers were at the car Lassetter tried to drive away, Cato said.

“He managed to get back in the driver’s seat, put the key in the ignition, put it in reverse,” he said. “I managed to hit the brake and slam it in park and broke the key off in the ignition.”

Moultrie police are expected to file additional charges.
