- Which Brockington will get the rebound? Zy (33) or Lemeke (21)? They were both a factor Monday for Colquitt County against Greenville Monday at Albany State University West.
ALBANY – Center Henry Daniels registered a career-high 27 points doing all of his work inside, and Colquitt County High exploded for 19 in a row in the second half to win for only the third time all season Monday. At the Martin Luther King Jr. Classic held at Albany State University’s West campus, the Packers defeated Greenville High (alma mater of former McDonald’s All-American Kentavious Caldwell-Pope) 85-68.
The Class A Patriots from Meriwether County went full court in pressing the Packers at the start and created a multitude of turnovers (including the 10-second violation). Daniels had all five for Colquitt when it trailed 10-5.

Where the Packers were succeeding in the first quarter was the offensive boards, not only with Daniels but also Lemeke and Zy Brockington. Zy Brockington put back a missed foul shot, and Tyler Walker added third-chance scoring to bring Greenville’s lead down to four, 15-11, at 2:48.
Greenville, however, was able to block some of those second-chance opportunities, and took one rejection the other way to score.
Lemeke Brockington remained super active, not only with put-back points but he also scored from his own steal. While Daniels added a late three-point play, it was the Patriots nailing two 3-pointers to stretch back ahead by five, 23-18, going into the second quarter.
Packer point guard Montavious Ponder emerged as a factor getting the basketball to his open teammates. He spotted Daniels down low, and that resulted in more stick-back scoring. Walker, at 5:45, ran the floor to tie the game 24-all. Lemeke Brockington also stole the ball twice in the second’s early stages.
Greenville’s outside shooting, meanwhile, went cold against Colquitt’s zone defense, but it wouldn’t stay that way for long. The Packers began missing layups, though that allowed Lemeke Brockington to get to more from offensive rebounding. When the Patriots rediscovered that 3-point stroke with two makes, Ponder countered at 1:14 until halftime.
Helping out Ponder’s show was Elijah Scott causing a turnover. With that, Ponder made the behind-the-back assist to Daniels. With five seconds on the clock, Ponder launched one more 3 that put the Packers in front 35-33 at the half.

Switching ends for the second half, the opposite rim wasn’t good to Colquitt for two minutes. Daniels got the team’s first points at 5:53. Greenville, in fast pace, was laying the basketball in at will and surged back to the lead at 43-37.
The second half turned out to be Scott’s turn to shine. He sank a 3-pointer and notched the game-tying basket for 50-all. The Packers kept control of the basketball through the Patriot pressure using on-target passes. With two seconds on the quarter clock, Ponder lobbed the ball into Daniels’ hands, and this play brought Colquitt within one, 57-56, and also began that game-changing spurt.
Scott opened the fourth quarter connecting from long range, and he stole the ball for a push that Daniels followed in (61-57 Packers). From a turnover, Ponder assisted Scott’s next 3, then he penetrated for an assist to Lemeke Brockington. Omar Daniels, a recent varsity addition, added 3 plus a pick-pocket steal.
The Packers were up 74-57 when Ponder had to leave the game for an injury. Lemeke Brockington helped with the distribution, getting an assist to Daniels.
Scott’s total was 18 points, 16 in the second half. Lemeke Brockington scored 12, Walker 10 and Zy Brockington seven.
