Senior center hosting Valentine’s Day events

DALTON, Ga. —  The Dalton-Whitfield Senior Center hosts a Valentine’s Day celebration mini-event on Thursday, Feb. 14, and its annual “Sweetheart Dance” that evening. The day features a free heart health seminar with Hamilton Medical Center, free Valentine’s Day photos, an ice cream social and a performance by Gary Woody and His Country Band. Door prizes are provided by Amedisys Hospice, Hamilton Medical Center and Pruitt Health. The senior center’s annual “Sweetheart Dance” is also on Thursday, Feb. 14. Doors open at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. There will be free Valentine’s Day photos, so attendees are encouraged to dress up. D.J. Services begins playing by 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. Call in advance to sign up for the dance at 706-278-3700.

Food Check-out Week event highlights farm service to community

MAYO, Fla. — Mayo Members of the Lafayette County Farm Bureau will celebrate ‘Food Check-Out Week Feb. 18-22. Farm Bureau donates fresh food from Florida to the Ronald McDonald House in Tallahassee. A luncheon is also prepared for about 75 guests during this time by the Farm Bureau women’s committee and other volunteers. A fundamental part of the well-being as a society depends upon the domestic production of food. Farmers and ranchers provide the community with an abundant, nutritious food supply throughout the year. Food Check-Out Week, set for Feb. 18-22, commemorates the value of this achievement for all Floridians. Local Farm Bureau members have volunteered to lead the event. They represent farm families throughout the area. The Farm Bureau also invites area residents to join in this community activity. The Lafayette County Farm Bureau is affiliated with the Florida Farm Bureau Federation, the state’s largest general interest agricultural organization, representing more than 148,000 member-families. Florida Farm Bureau serves to enhance farm enterprise and improve rural communities.
