Shooting suspect surrenders

THOMASVILLE — A suspect in a Wednesday night shooting has surrendered, according to police.

A warrant had been issued for Demetrius Antoine Brooks, 21, Thomasville, for a shooting at a Wright Street home.

Several people witnessed the shooting at the 810 Wright St. residence and identified the shooter as Brooks, according to authorities.

Warrants for Brooks included charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Police were notified about 9 p.m Wednesday and found the 28-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

“He was aware, he was conscious, he was talking,” said Maj. Wade Glover, Thomasville Police Department public information officer.

Thomas County Emergency Medical Service transported the injured man to Archbold Memorial Hospital.

Witnesses told police Brooks and the victim were involved in an altercation when Brooks pulled out a handgun and fired a number of shots, with one striking the victim.
