MOULTRIE, Ga. — Students in Colquitt County got another scare Thursday when a student from Odom Elementary School was found in possession of a gun that turned out to be fake. The incident occurred on a bus on the way to school.
Authorities said the gun was an all-black revolver that could have been easily mistaken for a real gun. The hammer would cock back, the trigger could be pulled and the cylinder would revolve, according to the deputy’s report.
Authorities asked the student where he got the gun, and he told them he found it on the bus. But staff members at the school told the deputy that the student’s sister said the gun was brought from home.
The student was charged with having a weapon on a school campus and was turned over to his parents.
The incident came exactly one week after three 19-year-olds were charged following an attack at Packer Park the preceding day. In that attack, one of the suspects allegedly pointed a BB gun that looked like a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol at the three victims.
And a 16-year-old Colquitt County High School student was charged Feb. 13 in connection with a threat to shoot up a preschool that was posted to an online game the previous day.
