MAYO — The Lafayette High baseball team extended its winning streak to five games with a 17-0 thrashing of Bell on Thursday.
Jarrett Pearson pitched an abbreviated no-hitter as the Hornets closed the game out by run rule after four innings and improved their record to 6-1 on the season. Pearson faced just 15 hitters, striking out four while allowing two walks and one batter who reached on an error. At the plate, he went 2-4 with four RBIs, which included a two-RBI double during a big third inning in which Lafayette plated 12 runs.
LHS started strong, batting around in the first inning and grabbing a 4-0 lead.
Leadoff hitter Jaxson Beach recorded two singles and scored three runs. Joseph Perry went 4-4 with three RBIs and Dylan Mock (1-1) reached base four times and scored three runs.
“I think we’re in a good place swinging. We hit the fastball pretty good,” said LHS coach Tim Hanson. “Pitching, we’re throwing strikes and playing decent defense behind them. That’s all we can ask for right now.”
Lafayette, which is averaging more than 10 runs per game and hitting .309 as a team, opens up district play on Thursday at Hamilton County.
