What officers found at the scene of a weekend brawl might have looked more like something from a martial arts movie than a rural Colquitt County roadway.

Colquitt County Sheriff’s  deputies who responded to reports of a fight  in the 100 block of Dogwood Drive found a “samurai-type” sword and other weapons. The windows of a van had been broken during the incident.

When the officers arrived to the scene at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a group of people scattered, leaving the weapons in the area. None of the people they talked with spoke English, so a Moultrie Police Department officer who speaks Spanish was called to help translate.

Francisco Gomez, who lived in the block, told officers that he called law enforcement after hearing a commotion in the area. Elias Morales, reported that two men came to his residence to fight him, and that one of them broke the windows of his van.

A third man, Roert Carlos, reported that he was hit in the shin and cheek with nunchucks while he was involved in a fight in the area. Israel Cruz also reported being hit during the melee.

Later, a woman reported that she was the person who broke the windows of a van.

At the time she approached officers the woman was holding a baseball bat, which she said she had picked up after the fight, sheriff’s reports said.

The men who reported being injured refused medical treatment, the reports said.

No arrests were made.

In addition to the sword, a machete, nunchucks and baseball bat were recovered at the scene.

In other weekend reports of violence, Javarres Dobson reported that a man shot at his foot during a Saturday incident in Moultrie.

Dobson told police that shortly before 11 p.m. he was in a park with his daughter near the intersection of Joe Louis Avenue and Seventh Street Northwest when six people approached and wanted to fight him. When he told them he did not want to fight, one male pulled a gun and fired at his foot to scare him.

Dobson reported that he picked up his daughter and walked away, and that he did not know the man who fired the shot.

Another man, Floyd Underwood, reported that he encountered an armed man who wanted to fight him while he was walking to the Chicken Shack. During the exchange of words, the man pulled up his shirt revealing a gun, he said.

The man walked away when he noticed he was being watched by onlookers at the restaurant.

He was described as a black male wearing a black jacket, red T-shirt and black jeans.

In another incident, police responded to a report of shots fired at 5:25 a.m. Saturday at Paradise Apartments in the 500 block of 27th Street Southeast.

Anthony Harper was upset that shots were fired at him, police reports said. However, when he refused to calm down and cooperate with officers he was arrested.

Harper, 27, 119 N. Jones St., Doerun, was charged with disorderly conduct and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
