TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The National Weather Service office in Tallahassee warns that severe storms are possible on Sunday throughout South Georgia and North Florida.
Colquitt County is within an area described as “Slight” risk based on a map at the office’s website at www.weather.gov/tae. Areas farther north and west are considered “Enhanced” risk.
Threats include possible tornadoes and damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles an hour, the NWS said.
The forecast calls for showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2 p.m. The chance of rain is estimated at 80 percent, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms are expected to be mostly out of the area by around 8 p.m.
The National Weather Service website explains that a low pressure system will organize across the southern Plains Saturday before rapidly lifting northeastward to the Missouri Valley Saturday night and the Ohio Valley on Sunday. This will send a strong cold front toward our area that will likely be preceded by a squall line.
