FORT MYERS, Fla. — Suwannee’s memorable run came to an end Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to Melbourne Central Catholic in a state semifinal.
The Bulldogs, playing in a Final Four for the first time since 1967, had just one hit against MCC pitcher Nick Durgin — an infield single from Marquis Jones in the sixth inning.
Durgin struck out 11 and made the two runs the Hustlers scored in the second inning count. Melbourne Central Catholic (24-6) used a leadoff single and back-to-back doubles in the inning to score.
Bo Bonds pitched the entire way for SHS, allowing five hits while striking out three.
Suwannee, after its best playoff run in more than 50 years, finishes the season with a 22-10 record.
