MOULTRIE, Ga. — World War II veterans have been called “the greatest generation” for defending liberty on both sides of the world at the same time. This year marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, an event that would be referred to as the beginning of the end of World War II.

Local WWII veterans will be recognized at the annual Independence Day Observance sponsored by the John Benning Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. The event will be held at 9:30 a.m. July 3 on the Courthouse Square.

“There are fewer and fewer veterans from this era still with us,” said Nancy Coleman, John Benning regent. “We want to take this opportunity for a new generation of Americans to say ‘thank you’ for preserving the liberties and freedoms we cherish.”

If you are a WWII veteran or know some one who is, you are asked to contact Coleman at nancycolemanDAR2@windstream.net or 229-941-2930.

More details about the Independence Day event will be released in the coming weeks.
