MOULTRIE, Ga. – Canfor Southern Pine presented Colquitt Regional Medical Center with a $20,000 check through participation in the Georgia HEART Tax Credit program. This financial support will significantly aid in funding future resources for a new education and training center, one of the hospital’s upcoming projects. This facility will offer simulation labs, classrooms and educational resources for clinical and medical staff along with physicians in the residency program.

“We are so grateful to local businesses, like Canfor, whose generous contributions allow Colquitt Regional to keep expanding and innovating,” said Colquitt Regional CEO and President Jim Matney. “Providing exceptional healthcare that exceeds expectations wouldn’t be possible without community partnerships like this.”

Canfor Southern Pine, part of the British Columbia-based corporation, completed its purchase of Beadles Lumber Company of Moultrie and Balfour Lumber Company of Thomasville in 2017. Their $28 million expansion into the region has created over 100 job opportunities in the area and millions of dollars in economic impact.

The Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit Program was passed in 2016 as a result of the rural hospital closures since 2008. The Georgia General Assembly passed this law to assist rural hospitals in their growth and expand healthcare services during economic hardship.

Canfor is one of 168 Georgia taxpayers this year to redirect their Georgia income tax liability to help support Colquitt Regional. The check was presented to Matney, Hospital Authority Chairman Maureen A. Yearta, Ed.D and Colquitt Regional Foundation President John Mark Mobley by Bryant Beadles and Gino Pedatella, Canfor plant managers.

“We are proud to see people directing their tax dollars to Colquitt Regional,” Yearta said. “Seeing our own community members and local businesses contribute speaks volumes of their loyalty and dedication to our hospital and its future.”

Colquitt Regional is a 99-bed medical center located in Moultrie. The latest “A” Hospital Safety Score designation from The Leapfrog Group names them as one of the safest hospitals in the nation.
