MOULTRIE, Ga. — Stringfellow Elementary School is offering a Supplemental Reading Program this summer.

The purpose of this Supplemental Reading Program is to provide Stringfellow students the opportunity to continue to engage in fun reading activities, according to Principal Brian Knighton.

“Research shows that without continued reading throughout the summer, students’ reading skills can decline,” Knighton said. “Whether your child is currently meeting grade level expectations or is performing below grade level in reading, our program this summer will help them maintain or improve their reading skills.”

The program will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month of June from 10 a.m. to noon. It started June 4 and will culminate June 27.

The program is designed to work around the summer feeding “free lunch” program, which operates noon to 12:30 p.m. each day, Knighton said.

Bus transportation is not provided; therefore, the students can walk to and from Stringfellow Elementary School for the summer reading program or parents can drop them off and pick them up, he said.

“If your child will be a walker, we will need a letter stating that the student will be walking to and from Stringfellow Elementary School each day of the program,” he said.
