THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville resident — and crime victim — said he is pleased when he sees a police officer patrolling his neighborhood and shining lights on the area at 3 a.m.

Art Williams installed a security system at his house. He checks during the night to see if anyone is lurking around his home.

“The police department caught our crooks,” Williams told Thomasville City Council members at a Monday meeting.

Describing the capture of four men as excellent police work, Williams said patrol officer Torrie Knuckles was “on her toes” when she discovered the group in a neighborhood at night — a short distance from where Williams lives.

“I happen to be a victim,” Williams said. “I take it personally.”

He hopes the judicial system will “detain” the suspects.

Three suspects were released from jail on bond. The fourth remains in jail in lieu of a $4,600 bond.

Suspects are charged with larceny of articles from vehicle, loitering and drug and traffic offenses.

In reference to police patrolling neighborhoods, Williams said, “It is not a place bad guys want to come mess around.”

His comments received applause from the council meeting audience.

“My neighborhood was visited, as well,” Council member Jay Flowers said later in the meeting.

“You’re on top of it,” Flowers told Police Chief Troy Rich.
