MOULTRIE, Ga. — A USO Show is coming to Moultrie. Well, sort of. The John Benning Daughters of the American Revolution and the Colquitt County Arts Center are collaborating to bring a USO style show to Moultrie to honor Vietnam veterans. The show is part of the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War commissioned by the U. S. Congress and coordinated by the U.S. Department of Defense.  

“We are excited to showcase local talent impersonating 1960s artists performing music from that era,” said Nancy Coleman, DAR Regent. “Music was one way soldiers remained connected to home. USO Shows — the big Bob Hope shows at Christmas and the smaller shows throughout the year — touched the soldiers and gave them hope and memories of home.”   

Talent signed on for the show includes Bob Hope, Phyllis Diller, Otis Redding, The Marvelettes, Peter Paul & Mary, Neil Diamond, Marilyn Monroe, The Beach Boys, Jerry Lee Lewis, Sonny and Cher, Jeannie C. Riley, Johnny Cash, Brenda Lee, The Animals and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Several other acts are “under contract.” The Arts Center is coordinating the talent and producing the show.  

The Colquitt County Men’s Choir will open the show each night with the Armed Forces Medley, paying tribute to all veterans. Several other tributes to veterans are being planned. Veterans are encouraged to wear all or part of their uniform or branch insignia.  

Shows dates are Friday, Aug. 9, and Saturday, Aug. 10, at 7 p.m. at Wright Auditorium at the Arts Center. The show will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11.  

Tickets are $15 each and are on sale now at the Arts Center and from DAR members. All veterans, not just Vietnam veterans, will be admitted at no cost with advanced tickets from the Arts Center. Tickets should be purchased early as all performances expected to sell out.
