MOULTRIE, Ga. — Everyone gets hungry and everyone eats. But when was the last time you tried something new?
United Way of Colquitt County is hosting Taste of the Town this Thursday, Sept. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., featuring 20 vendors and restaurants from around the community.
“It’s new. We hope that it’ll drive unity in the community and really get people interested to try new foods,” said Caroline Horne, director of United Way of Colquitt County.
Taking place in downtown Moultrie, Taste of the Town will give attendees the chance to help promote local businesses and the new recipes they hope to create by sampling the new foods and dishes they have to offer. Some of the participating vendors and restaurants include Armando’s, Beans and Strings, Mama D’s and Blue Sky Grill.
Aside from the delicious food options, there will be plenty of other things to do as well.
“Anyone who is downtown and has bought a ticket will get a wristband,” said Horne. “That wristband will give you access to a discount at many of the downtown stores that will be open for business Thursday night.”
Aside from a chance to shop, there will be bounce castles and cornhole games for the kids, and South Georgia musician Daniel Parrish will be providing musical entertainment for the night.
“I really hope to promote and create awareness of the local nonprofits and the need in our community to fund and help local nonprofits,” said Horne. “And it’s a fun fundraiser that everyone gets something out of. Everyone likes to eat.”
Tickets can be bought through the United Way of Colquitt County website for $20 for ages 11 and older and for $10 for ages 6 through 10. Or you buy purchase tickets at the gate for $25 for attendees 11 and older and $10 for ages 6 to 10. Kids 5 and under will get in for free no matter when you pay.
“Try something new,” said Horne. “It’s really the eat-local mindset that we’re trying to embody. We hope everyone will come out and try something they’ve never tasted before.”
