A 27-year-old Milledgeville man is the latest victim of gun violence in Baldwin County, local authorities say.

Baldwin County Coroner John Gonzalez identified the man as Lamarcus “Marc” Brown. 

Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Brad King, who heads the criminal investigations division, said the victim was shot multiple times.

The victim’s body was discovered inside a car near the intersection of Davis Drive and Jackson Street on the southside of Baldwin County shortly before 8 a.m. Friday. A passerby alerted authorities by calling 911.

King said the passersby spotted the car while en route to work.

“The car was not completely in the road, but not completely off the road,” King said, noting it was odd to the driver that the car was near the intersection.

King said the sheriff’s office asked for assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 6 Office in Milledgeville to help in the ongoing investigation.

The victim was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. Friday by Baldwin County Chief Deputy Coroner Ken Garland.

An autopsy to establish the exact cause of Brown’s death is scheduled for Monday morning at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Laboratory in Macon, Garland said.

Brown worked at the Dollar General Store on Roberson Mill Road in Milledgeville.

King told The Union-Recorder on Friday afternoon that the shooting happened somewhere else and the victim’s body was brought to the place where it was found in a silver-colored Nissan Altima.

“He was definitely shot somewhere else and taken to where he was found in the car,” King said.

King said deputies responded to a shots-fired call Thursday night, about a half-mile from where Brown’s body was found in the car.

“And we have recovered some evidence, but we don’t have any tie to the two cases, whatsoever, at this time,” King said. “Right now, we don’t know exactly where the shooting might have taken place.”

The shots-fired call indicated several gunshots had been heard, he said. 

When asked if detectives had learned where Brown might have been during the night, King said that was what they currently were working to find out.

“We’re trying to figure out where he might have been throughout the night,” King said.

That’s why authorities are reaching out to the public for their help.

“Anybody that knows anything about his (Brown’s) whereabouts in the past 24 hours would be helpful to us at this time,” King said.

Brown was found slumped over in a seat of the car, according to Detective Robert Butch, who went to the scene, collected evidence, and took crime scene photographs.

Butch said several other detectives also went to the scene and assisted with the investigation.

“We really don’t have a lot to go on other than we are in the early stages of this investigation,” Butch said. “We’re documenting the crime scene and we are attempting to locate witnesses and talk with other people, too.”

One of Brown’s former high school football teammates, Wydeldrick “Mel” Denson, 26, was found shot to death on Karen Circle in Milledgeville last month.

The two played football together at BHS in 2010. At the time, Brown was a senior, while Denson was a junior.

Denson was shot once in the stomach and later died at Navicent Health Baldwin hospital in Milledgeville, according to Maj. Michael Hudson, commander of the criminal investigations division with the Milledgeville Police Department.

Detectives with the Milledgeville Police Department still are working to solve that case.

It was not immediately known as of presstime Friday whether or not the two cases are linked.

The homicide of Brown on Friday marked the second homicide investigation of the week for detectives with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday night, 37-year-old Jody Raley, of the 100 block of Hodges Lake Road, was shot and killed at his residence. The next day, authorities charged William “Chad” Weaver, 37, of the 100 block of Briarcliff Trail in Ivey with murder. The suspect remains in the Baldwin County Law Enforcement Center.
