- Colquitt County sheriff's deputies and Moultrie police officers coordinate in controlling traffic as both law enforcement agencies responded to an accident that left a woman with severe injuries just before noon Friday.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — A woman hit by a pickup truck on South Main Street and First Avenue Southeast has been identified by family and friends as Lynn Purvis, Colquitt County clerk of Superior Court.
Purvis was hit shortly after 11:30 a.m. Friday in an accident that left her with severe injuries. According to Georgia State Patrol Post Commander John Vanlandingham, both parties had the green light.
Vanlandingham said a Moultrie resident, Yordanis Blanco Vincent, was driving south on Main Street and turned left onto First Avenue. Purvis was walking across the street from the courthouse towards the Moultrie Pawn Shop as Vincent made the turn.
She was knocked 20 feet backwards.
“They both had the go sign and just didn’t see each other,” Vanlandingham said.
Purvis was taken by helicopter to Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville.
A hospital spokeswoman said on Friday afternoon that Purvis was heading into the intensive care unit at that time.
Vanlandingham said he didn’t suspect that either Purvis or Vincent was impaired, but blood was to be drawn from both of them as standard protocol for the situation. Charges, however, are pending.
“Right now, I’m not going to place charges on either party until I get the bigger picture of what’s going on,” he said.
GSP attempted to gather more information via the Moultrie Pawn Shop’s security cameras, but little information was gained. Its footage showed only South Main Street.
Purvis became clerk of court in 2013 upon the retirement of Carolyn Marshall. She defeated Shannon Hart in a special election later that year, then ran unopposed in 2016. Her seat is up for election in 2020.
