THOMASVILLE – So what if Dy Williams only scored three points in Monday’s Colquitt County High boys basketball game at the Brookwood School Thanksgiving holiday classic. He came back with 11 in Tuesday’s action.

So what if Aaron Long only scored two points for the Packers Tuesday. He came up with one timely basket after another, 14 points in all Monday.

Both were wins for Colquitt County and second-year head coach Tremaine Facison, who is excited to take a 3-1 record into December.

Facison is also excited that it’s a Packer team gaining confidence, that’s cheering each other on, and doesn’t rely on one player to get everything done each game.

On Tuesday, the Packers romped past the Deerfield-Windsor Knights 62-35 after Monday’s 70-51 triumph against the tournament host Brookwood School Warriors. The constants in each game for scoring production were post Henry Daniels with 14 points Tuesday and 10 Monday, and Elijah Scott scored 12 Tuesday and 20 Monday.

Four Colquitt County student-athletes fresh off the football field were in basketball uniforms and on the court Monday and Tuesday for Facison. Montavious Ponder came in ready to lead the point, and as a reserve he combined for 11 points, stole the ball all over the floor and dished out some assists.

Tuesday, Williams cranked up his game right away throwing an assist to Scott in transition and going end-to-end from a steal of an interior pass. Both plays went for three points.

Williams’ second-chance 3-ball at 2:56 of the opening quarter, two steals by Ponder with points added in, and a second-chance bucket from Tyler Walker completed a 17-0 run.

The Knights from Albany didn’t score until the 16-second mark of the quarter.

Deerfield-Windsor’s shooting improved in the second quarter with two 3-pointers around one by Scott. The Packers, however, had the better inside game behind Daniels and Scott. Even Long’s only basket of the day was from putting back a deflected ball near the rim.

The Knights connected on one more 3 at 1.5 seconds, but it was Colquitt County taking the big lead into the half 36-18.

Williams also had a strong start to the second half scoring five inside and out around Daniels’ latest put-back. As Facison went to his ‘football’ second unit, Omarian Daniels scored five points with a Ponder assist and Walker made two steals. It was 48-27 Packers after the third.

The fourth period began with Scott’s leaping offensive rebound score and H. Daniels finishing off a break assisted by Reggie Scott. Reggie later converted Elijah’s assist, and H. Daniels running one-handed slam put the Packers up by 25.
