Man running from police struck by SUV on highway in Tifton

TIFTON, Ga. — A Tifton man was struck by a vehicle on US Highway 82 Saturday while fleeing law enforcement after an alleged shoplifting incident at Walmart.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the victim, Matthew Hartsfield, 30, was crossing 82 on foot in front of the Murphy gas station when he was struck by a 2000 Ford Excursion.
Troopers received the call at approximately 7:15 p.m.
Tift County EMS responded to the call and Hartsfield was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville via LifeFlight.
According to GSP, Hartsfield sustained injuries to his leg and head.
Corporal D. Sellars with GSP, who worked the accident, said that there were no charges pending against the driver of the vehicle.
There are currently no charges being filed against Hartsfield, according to the Tifton Police Department.
