Among those in attendance were, from left, MPD Chaplain Gwendolyn Knighton; D.R. Palmer and Carmenza Palmer, relatives of Officer Julian Palmer; and MPD Sgt. Dave Underwood, who led the effort to get Palmer’s name on the monument and to find his relatives to attend the event.

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie Police Department led a recognition ceremony Sunday in honor of Officer Julian Palmer at the Officers Memorial on the Courthouse Square.

Palmer died in a motorcycle accident in 1934 while chasing two cars that were racing through Moultrie, but the incident had been lost to history until someone discovered it and forwarded it to the MPD last year.
