MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Colquitt County High FFA Chapter sent two teams and one individual to the FFA State CDE Day at Fort Valley State University last weekend — and came home with three state championships.
A C.A. Gray Junior High student also placed third in the state in the Career Development Events competition, according to a press release from the FFA chapter.
“It was a huge day for our chapter to come home with three state championships and we look forward to seeing each of these students on stage at the State FFA Convention in front of over 5,000 people and represent the state of Georgia at the National FFA Convention,” said Adrienne Smith, agriculture teacher at Colquitt County High School.
The winners will compete at the National FFA Convention in October in Indianapolis, Ind.
Victoria Barber, Patti Mitchell, and Mitchell Riley competed in the Ag Marketing CDE competition. They presented a 15-minute presentation about a service developed by the team for a local agribusiness in Colquitt County. They also had a question round following the presentation.
Each member of the Ag Sales team attempted to sell a product that was given to them prior to the competition to a judge and took a 25-question test. Team members include Presley Hamilton, Kaitlyn Hart, Logan Moore, and Mary Logan Tostenson.
Kirk Beacham competed in the Lawnmower Operations and Maintenance CDE. He completed a written exam, a problem solving activity and demonstrated lawnmower maintenance and driving skills. Beacham’s victory was his second in state competition this school year; he won the state EMC/FFA Agriculture Electrical Wiring event Jan. 13.
Mason Bass from the C.A. Gray Middle School FFA also competed in the Junior Lawnmower Operations and Maintenance CDE and won third place in the state of Georgia.
