MOULTRIE, Ga.— City council members and other guests were treated with a private tour of the city’s new wastewater treatment plant after the Arbor Day ceremony Friday afternoon.
Council members were able to see firsthand what actually happens to the city’s water and the way it is processed.

WW Operations Supervisor Zac Conlon led the tour, showing guests the different cycles and facilities the plant is comprised of.
“The upgrades allow us to be able to process more water and with having more water, we can do it more efficiently than we were doing it at the old plant,” Conlon said. “The capacity here is going from 4 million gallons per day to 6 million gallons per day. We don’t typically see those flows but if we were to, we can handle it.”
“If we have a large storm or anything like that that may affect us, we’re definitely able to handle that increase and not have to worry about our treatment degrading,” Conlon said.
Conlon said the plant will have been operating for one year in March.
“To be honest, I think that we’re a vital necessity to our infrastructure in the city,” Conlon said.
The new wastewater treatment facility’s ribbon cutting is set for next month.
