Several shopliftings reported

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A rash of weekend thefts included an unusual number of shopliftings from area businesses, with thieves taking five-finger discounts on a television and telephone as well as beer and jewelry.
Among the thefts reported recently to law enforcement agencies:
Thefts
Moultrie Police
• Wal-Mart, 641 Veterans Parkway S., reported Friday that a male walked out of the store without paying for a 40-inch Sanyo television valued at $198 that he carried out with him.
• Green Oaks Center, 2443 Hwy. 133 S., reported Friday the theft of an unknown amount of gasoline siphoned from a company van in the parking lot.
An employee told police that a similar gas theft occurred on Feb. 16.
• Belk, 2443 S. Main St., reported Saturday that a female shoplifter concealed a $45 jewelry item in her pocket and walked out without paying.
• CVS Pharmacy, 1027 S. Main St., reported Saturday that a male shoplifter placed makeup into a bag and left without paying for it.
The value of the merchandise was unknown.
• Family Dollar, 2795 West Blvd., reported Sunday that a group of three female shoplifters stole an unknown amount of merchandise.
• Shaneeke Tuff, 34, Moultrie, reported Sunday the theft of an Apple iPhone 7 Plus cell phone taken from a shopping cart while she was in a store in the 600 block of Veterans Parkway South.
• Victory Lane, 1000 First Ave. S.E., reported that a store employee chased down a shoplifter who ran out with two 12 packs of Corona beer with a total value of $32.
The employee recovered the beer.
Reviewing video after the incident, the employee saw that the same man had stolen two 15 packs of Bud Light beer with a total value of $30 earlier in the day.
Sheriff’s Office
• Dollar General, 1936 Hwy. 133 S., reported Sunday that a shoplifter stole a Verizon ZTE Blade Vantage cell phone valued at $50.
Battery
Moultrie Police
• Erica Smith, 500 block First Avenue Northwest, reported Monday that a juvenile relative scratched her arm, struck her in the chest with her knee and hit her.
Smith and a witness told police that the incident was over a portion of pizza and that Smith confronted the female juvenile after she used a vulgar word.
Police charged the girl with simple battery and released her to her mother.
Other investigations
Sheriff’s Office
• David Dorminey, 100 block Sam Harell Road, reported Saturday that someone cut a window screen on a front window and also moved a board used to keep the window closed and knocked a small Christmas tree over from a table.
Dorminey told police that nothing appeared to be missing.
• Susie Mae Arnold, 1100 block Sixth Street Southwest, reported Monday finding sugar on the gas tank lid of her 2009 Saturn Acura and on the ground by the car.
Moultrie Police
• Monica Yates, 600 block 12th Street Northwest, reported Saturday that someone kicked in a side door of her residence while she was not at home.
Nothing appeared to have been taken.
