Incumbents qualified without opposition in all state Senate and House races involving Colquitt County: House District 171, Jay Powell; House District 172, Sam Watson; and Senate District 11, Dean Burke. All are Republicans.

On the national scene, U.S. Rep. Austin Scott, R-Tifton, will face two Republican challengers as he seeks re-election. Danny Ellyson, a retired serviceman from Warner Robins, and Vance Dean, a small business owner whose address wasn’t listed on the Secretary of State’s website, qualified to run against him. The winner faces no opposition in November.
