MOULTRIE, Ga. — A prowler who insisted he was out of gas discovered quickly that he could, in fact, drive the truck away after he was confronted by an irate Omega man with a rifle in the early morning hours Friday.

Russell Ponder was awakened at about 1:30 a.m. at his residence in the 500 block of Jim Clark Road by his dog barking at something in his back yard.

When Ponder investigated he saw a white pickup truck parked in his driveway, and when he opened his door saw a man standing behind the open driver’s door.

He asked the man why he was there and he responded that he needed to buy some gasoline before he could leave. When Ponder pointed his rifle in the man’s direction and again insisted that he should leave, the man got into what appeared to be a 1980s or 1990s model Mitsubishi regular cab truck and drove away.

The truck appeared to have “general damage” all over and had no functioning tail lights.

Ponder described the man as a white male, 35 to 40 years old with a buzz cut haircut, no visible facial hair and wearing a camel or tan jacket.
