Annual flower show coming to Thomasville

THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Members of the Thomasville Garden Club Inc. announce the 97th annual flower show set for Friday and Saturday, April 28-29, during the Rose Show Festival weekend at the Thomasville Garden Center, 1002 S. Broad St.
The theme for this year is a look back in time to the plantation era, “Among the Pines.” Events include a luncheon and fashion show Friday at 12:30 p.m. on the grounds of the Garden Center with the ribbon cutting to open the show at 1:30. The Thomas University Jazz band will be on hand to entertain during the luncheon and ribbon cutting.
A children’s event is set for Saturday morning 10 until noon. Children ages 5-10 are invited to stop by for hands on activities involving butterflies and gardening. There is no charge for the event.
The flower show is open Friday from 1:30 to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show is free with donations accepted. Luncheon and fashion show tickets are $15. Tickets are available at the Visitor’s Center and online at Event Brite.
The different categories of horticulture and design draw from the local plantations and events held then and now such as field trials, fox hunts and picnics on the grounds.
The general public may also enter horticulture specimens on Thursday, April 26, from 2 to 6 p.m.
Those who visit the show can expect to see several different table designs centered around the local plantations. Pebble Hill: Dinner on the Grounds; Field Trials: Lunch After the Trials; Millpond Plantation: Brunch on the Patio. Creative Designs that will be presented are “South Georgia Sunrise,” “Feathers in Flight” and “Hounds and Horses.”
Garden Club members invite gardening and floral design enthusiasts to visit the show Friday afternoon and Saturday. The Visitors Center will offer trolley rides between the Rose Show, Civic Garden Club Flower Show and Paradise Park all along historic Broad Street.
