MOULTRIE, Ga. — A couple of thieves made off on Sunday with batteries from four school buses parked near a Colquitt County produce packing shed, possibly driving them out on four-wheelers.

A deputy was dispatched at 10:16 p.m. to a report of the theft at Chill C. Farms in the 300 block of Funston-Doerun Road.

An employee told police that two Exide batteries had been removed from three of the buses and a single battery from a fourth bus.

A passerby saw a light in the area of the buses and stopped nearby, turning off the car lights. She told police that she saw two males removing batteries from the outside compartment of the buses.

The witness did not see the two leave. Tire tracks found near the buses appear to have been made by ATVs, police said.

The batteries were valued at a total of $700. The buses are used in picking produce.
