The epic struggle between good and evil comes to life July 27th-29th as the Arts Center Theater takes the stage with the production of JEKYLL & HYDE-The Musical. An evocative tale of two men – one, a doctor, passionate and romantic; the other, a terrifying madman – and two women – one, beautiful and trusting; the other, beautiful and trusting only herself– both women in love with the same man and both unaware of his dark secret. A devoted man of science, Dr. Henry Jekyll is driven to find a chemical breakthrough that can solve some of mankind’s most challenging medical dilemmas. Rebuffed by the powers that be, he decides to make himself the subject of his own experimental treatments, accidentally unleashing his inner demons along with the man that the world would come to know as Mr. Hyde. Based on the classic story by Robert Louis Stevenson and featuring a thrilling score of pop rock hits from multi-Grammy- and Tony-nominated Frank Wildhorn and double-Oscar- and Grammy-winning Leslie Bricusse, Jekyll & Hyde has mesmerized audiences the world over. Please be aware that some content may be unsuitable for students under the age of 13.

Performances will be at 7 PM on Friday, July 27th and Saturday, July 28th and at 2 PM on Sunday, July 29th. All tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance in the Arts Center office or 30 minutes prior to each performance at the box office.

SOPCHOPPY OPRY BAND-SOUTH BOUND

Friday, August 24th 7 PM

It has been called “The Little Opry that Can” by the Tallahassee Democrat, “a re-creation of the original Grand Ole Opry experience by country music historians and the Big Bends showcase of country music by those who seek to play at the Opry”. But to the hundreds of fans who have enjoyed the Opry since its inaugural performance in July, 2000, the Sopchoppy Opry is “just the best place to be the last Saturday night of each month” for great country, bluegrass and gospel music! Scores of individuals and dozens of bands have showcased their musical/vocal talents as guest performers on the Opry stage, and to no one’s surprise, the reason for the Opry’s enduring success is the music of South Bound, the Opry’s popular house band. The Arts Center is excited to bring SOUTH BOUND to our stage in August.  The South Bound band was under the capable leadership of Herman “Mac” McWaters from July 2000 until 2010. Since then Reggie Bradley has been the Musical Coordinator and Bass Guitar player for the South Bound band.

Additional musicians include Larry Bullock who played with the Curtis Gordon band for 12 years and Wayne Martin who has been the Florida fiddle champion for 3 years. It’s going to be a great evening with fabulous music. Tickets are $20 person and they will go quickly!

SOUTH GEORGIA OPERA – LA BOHEME

At the other end of the entertainment spectrum – the Colquitt County Arts Center is excited to bring the Peach State Opera Company to the Withers Auditorium for a single performance of La Boheme on Sunday, October 7th at 3 PM. Tickets will be $20 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.

Peach State Opera is a touring company that shares the thrill of live opera with small communities in Georgia and its surrounding states by presenting exciting and portable English-language productions. PSO resides at the Clarkston campus of Georgia Perimeter College as one of the college’s “Artist Affiliate” organizations. Artistic Director Evelyn Hughes incorporates emerging professional singers into the casts, thus giving them valuable experience as well as the performing credits necessary for a burgeoning career.

An added bonus to Peach State Opera’s performance will be the use of the Colquitt County High School A Capella Choir as the chorus for the production. Students will rehearse Friday and Saturday for the 3 PM Sunday performance and the Arts Center and Tempo Club will costume the 80 plus students involved.

A portion of the proceeds from this performance will benefit the choir students who will be traveling to Italy next year. Look for more information on this exciting community event in the very near future.
