MOULTRIE, Ga. — A trio of burglary suspects arrested after a Sunday afternoon traffic stop face city and county charges in three incidents reported the same day.

About 5 p.m. Moultrie police were called to a residence on Dogwood Drive, Williams said.

“The homeowner drove up and startled them,” he said. “They jumped in the car (and left).”

Then at 5:20 p.m., David Whittington called for county deputies at his residence in the 100 block of Thornridge Court.

“(People) were looking in a window at the residence,” Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Katrina Johnson said.

About 10 minutes later, officers stopped a gray 2008 Nissan Altima matching the description given by Whittington on Hopewell Church Road. After an investigation, the officers took Billy Howard III, Jaelon Powell, and Samaj Willis, all 19, into custody.

“Deputies were able to locate the vehicle after it fled the scene,” Johnson said. “They were able to identify the vehicle and suspects.”

Inside the car were possessions taken during a burglary reported earlier in the city of Moultrie, she said. A package taken from Whittington’s porch also was found inside the car.

Howard, Powell and Willis were each charged by the sheriff’s office with theft by taking and criminal attempt to commit burglary.

Moultrie police have charged them with burglary and criminal attempt to commit burglary.

All were released on Wednesday on $12,000 bonds.
