MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie teen-ager was shot multiple times Saturday afternoon in the vicinity of several restaurants and other businesses just a block over from the heavily traveled First Avenue Southeast.
The 18-year-old, who is not being identified at this time by police, possibly was struck as many as five times by bullets as he, an adult and two juveniles were walking near Domino’s Pizza at about 1 p.m. on Third Avenue Southeast.
None of his three companions were hit, Moultrie Police Department Sgt. Shavarye Anderson said on Monday.
“The person they shot was the primary target,” he said. “That’s who they were intending to shoot.”
Police continued speaking with witnesses on Monday as they tried to identify suspects in the drive-by assault.
“The victim was walking, a vehicle pulls up beside them and started shooting,” Anderson said. “Several witnesses saw it.”
Anderson said police are not identifying the suspect or giving his location because they believe he remains in danger and based on information they have the assailant may try to finish the job.
The teen was treated for multiple gunshot wounds “and he’s expected to recover,” Anderson said.
Police ask that anyone with information call detectives at (229) 890-5500.
