MOULTRIE, Ga. — Since the beginning of August, the Moultrie-Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team has been working an undercover drug operation at a house located at 820 Sixth St. S.E.

During the operation, undercover officers had been buying quantities of illegal drugs from multiple residents of the house and on Tuesday around 6:45 p.m. they served a search warrant there.

After the warrant was served, officers arrested three people on the scene and still have two on the loose that they hope to capture soon.

Kalib Smith was charged with four counts of facilitating a drug transaction through a cellphone, four of counts selling marijuana and one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer.

Michael Bennefield was charged with possession of ecstasy, and Arthur Smith Jr. was charged with possession of a controlled substance and the sale of marijuana.

Sgt. Channing McDowell of the Moultrie-Colquitt County Drug Enforcement Team was very pleased with the work of his team.

“We began this investigation at the beginning of August, and we finally concluded the investigation the 14th,” said McDowell. “We have two more suspects out there that we should have in custody by today or tomorrow. But this was a great job done by the team.”
