LAKELAND — Authorities are asking for help in finding a wanted man who eluded searchers in Lanier County Aug. 21.

Coleman Hanna is wanted in Coffee County on a warrant for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge, plus a probation warrant, said Cpl. Chad Williams of the Douglas Police Department. Hanna is also wanted in Glynn County for assault, Williams said. Hanna’s trail has gone cold, the corporal said Wednesday.

An alert went out Aug. 21 to law-enforcement agencies across South Georgia for a man described as “armed and dangerous,” Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk said.

“The word we got was he was in DuPont, heading to Valdosta on U.S. 84” before changing course for Lakeland, Paulk said last week.

Paulk assisted with the search in Lanier County.

“The state patrol found the car abandoned” on River Road, he said. “Dog teams were put out, but they didn’t find anyone.”

Hanna is believed to be traveling between Coffee County, Atkinson County, Clinch County, Lanier County, and Jacksonville Fla., police said. He is believed to be in possession of a firearm and is considered armed and dangerous.

Hanna is a black male about 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, with multiple tattoos including tattoos under both eyes that are faded, making them hard to see, according to the statement.

Anyone with knowledge of Hanna’s whereabouts can call the Douglas Police Department’s tip line, (912) 260-3600, Williams said.
