OCHLOCKNEE, Ga. — Nov. 10 will mark the 42nd annual Old South Day Festival, sponsored by Ochlocknee Community Civic Club Inc. The festival will be held 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at 5020 Spence St., the old school grounds, in Ochlocknee.
A breakfast will be offered at 6 a.m.
Old South Day is a tribute to the past and a salute to the blending of all heritages in the region, according to a press release from the organizers.
Among the day’s activities are arts, crafts, food of every description, a parade, entertainment, an antique museum, an antique house (showing how life was lived at the turn of the 20th century), the making of sugar cane syrup by the old fashioned open kettle method, an old fashioned breakfast and a country fair.
Arts and crafts will feature hand-made items. Booth spaces measure 15-by-15-feet. Non-electrical spaces are $50, and spaces with electricity are $100. Please contact booth chairperson Belen Ausburn at (229) 200-1023 or ausburnbelen1966@gmail.com before Oct. 31.
Baked goods, food booths and new flea market exhibitors may also rent booth space through Ausburn, but those spaces are very limited.
The Old South Day Parade includes antique vehicles, horses, wagons, antique fire engines, area festival representatives and more. It will begin at 11 a.m. For any information about the parade, contact Libby Maddox at (229) 226-1749 or (229) 224-2234.
Entertainment will be presented throughout the day.
The Old South Day Antique Museum will feature tools, furnishings, old newspaper clippings and much more. Anyone who would like to participate with their antiques should call Benny Prince at (229) 221-8802.
The country fair will also be a step into the past. Old-fashioned country fairs were held each year for local farmers, their wives, “city folk” and children to enter their specialty, whether it be handmade items, baked goods or other things to win a prized ribbon. The Old South Day Country Fair is pattered in this fashion. Anyone wishing to participate can call Libby Maddox at (229) 226-1749 or (229) 224-2234.
For any other information about the event, contact any chairperson or call publicity director Sharon Herring at (229) 574-5151.
