GSW honors former Moultrie Tech chief

AMERICUS, Ga. — Tina Anderson, former president of Moultrie Technical College, is one of eight alumni who will be honored by Georgia Southwestern State University on Friday, Oct. 12, during the annual Outstanding Alumni Awards Dinner in the Thomas O. Marshall Jr. Pavilion of the Marshall Student Center.

Anderson, Ed.D., who graduated from GSW in 1987 and 1992, will represent the School of Business Administration. A graduate from each of GSW’s five colleges and schools will be recognized at the event, along with one former student-athlete who will be inducted into the university’s Athletics Hall of Fame and two recipients of special alumni awards.

Anderson has established herself as a leader within the Technical College System of Georgia. Having spent nearly all of her professional career working at TCSG schools in progressively responsible roles, she has spent the last 15 years serving as a college president. She is currently the president of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College, which has four campuses. From 2003 to 2013, Anderson served as president of Moultrie Technical College.

She was a 2005 participant of the Leadership Georgia program and is also a graduate of Leadership Warner Robins. Anderson was named a Georgia Trend Magazine “Top 40 Under 40” list honoree in 2004 and was named to the South Georgia Business Magazine’s list of the 25 Most Influential South Georgians in 2005. Anderson’s husband, Tony (GSW Class of ’89), is human resources director for the Brooks County School System.

Other Outstanding Alumni Awards will be presented to Joao Paulo “J.P.” Clementi, 2001 and 2003, School of Computing and Mathematics;  Richard “Ricky” McCorkle, 1976, School of Education; Neil McGahee, 1971, College of Arts and Sciences; and Kay Hampton, 1977, College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Phillip Brown, Class of 2011, will be inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame. The Leewyn Finklea Award, which is given annually to an alumnus who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and service to the alumni association and/or to GSW in the past year, will go to Jimmy Peel, Class of 1980; and the Aeolian Award, which is chosen based on outstanding lifetime achievement as a distinguished alumnus and community leader, will go to Pam Carswell, Ed.D., Class of 1978.
