Packer boys cross country qualifies for state

CONYERS – On Oct. 20, Colquitt County High cross country teams joined Lowndes, Tift County, Camden County, Archer, Grayson, Shiloh Rockdale County and others for the Area 1 Class 7A championships. This was the qualifying 5K race for the 2018 GHSA 7A championships taking place the weekend of Nov. 2 in Carrollton.

Running at the Georgia International Horse Park in Conyers, the Colquitt County boys finished in sixth place to earn a trip to the state competition. The Packers had 180 points while Lowndes placed fourth with 105 and Camden fifth with 126.

Pierce Horton of the Packers ran 24th individually at 19:03. Other Packers in the top 40 were Hayes Lightsey (shown at left), 34th in 19:38.32; Colin Daniels, 37th in 19:51; and Seth Shellhouse (shown at right), 39th in 19:59.

Lowndes’ Alec Munger was the third-place runner in this area, timing 16:56.

Emily Golden of Tift County won the Area 1 girls 5K in 19:45, the only girl in the field to cross in less than 20 minutes. From Colquitt County, Danielle Brown ran 39th (26:24) and Brooke Wright 48th (27:06).
