DALTON, Ga. — A woman shot in Whitfield County by law enforcement officers after a chase down I-75 from Tennessee told her attorney to waive her bond hearing Tuesday morning and “resolve her case as quickly as possible.”

Clinique Jashauna Jackson, 33, listed as “homeless” but previously said to be from Conyers, made a brief appearance in Superior Court Judge Scott Minter’s courtroom via video conferencing from the county jail. She is charged here with theft by receiving stolen property, use of a license plate to conceal the identity of a vehicle and 14 counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

Assistant Public Defender Blake Skipper told Minter that Jackson was going against his advice.

“I’ve asked her to consider asking for bond today, but she has told me that she does not want to ask for bond and would just like to resolve her case as quickly as possible,” Skipper said.

Jackson faces multiple felony charges in Georgia and Tennessee after authorities say she and Parrish Smaely, 56, of Jonesboro fled from law enforcement in Cleveland, Tennessee, on Aug. 22 where they were reportedly shoplifting and threatened store employees with a handgun.

The two eluded law enforcement during a chase south on I-75 from Bradley County, Tennessee, until a Georgia State Patrol trooper executed a PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique) maneuver on the vehicle Smaely was driving near the Walnut Avenue exit. Smaely got out of the vehicle and was arrested, but Jackson took off in the vehicle until it was stopped by another PIT by a Whitfield County deputy.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Jackson got out of the car with two handguns and pointed them at officers. She was shot by officers from Hamilton County, Tennessee, and the Tunnel Hill Police Department.

Jackson was placed on Judge Jim Wilbanks’ arraignment calendar with Smaely for Nov. 13. Smaely was denied bond on Aug. 28 and both he and Jackson will remain in the county jail. Smaely is charged in Whitfield County with DUI, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen vehicle, fugitive from justice, use of a license plate to conceal the identity of a vehicle, open container violation, hit and run, fleeing/attempting to elude a police officer, driving on a divided highway/controlled access road/emergency lane, failure to maintain lane, driving too fast for conditions, reckless driving and driving while license is suspended or revoked.
