Mother Easter Baptist Church plans fall revival

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Rev. Freddie L. Castle and the Mother Easter Baptist Church family will hold their Fall Revival 7 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, Oct. 22-24. The Rev. Dr. William C. Morgan, pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Valdosta, will be the guest revivalist.

Morgan was born Nov. 9, 1953, in Manhattan, New York. He was reared by his mother, the late Helen Jones Morgan of Brooklyn, N.Y., and his grandmother, the late Jettie Brown Jones of Valdosta. His early childhood education was acquired at Lowndes County’s P.G. Williams Elementary and West Side High School.

Upon returning to New York he continued his education at Brooklyn’s Boy’s High School, graduating in 1971. Following high school he joined the armed forces and served over 3 years and 4 months as a member of the United States Army’s Medical Corps. With honorable discharge papers in hand, he joined the United States Postal Service on Sept. 10, 1976. After 32 years of service, he retired from the Postal Service on Nov. 30, 2008.

 In 1980, with the support of his wife, Altamese, he enrolled at Valdosta State College (now Valdosta State University) graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Speech Communication and in 1989 with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

On Sept. 12, 1991, the Lord called Morgan into the Gospel Ministry. He was licensed and ordained under the leadership of the late Pastor Otis Columbus Pitts, after serving the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for seven years as a deacon. On Nov. 19, 1993, he was called to the pastorate at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Valdosta, where he continues to serve.

He enrolled and graduated (June 2002) from the Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary of Dothan, Ala., with a Doctorate of Theological Studies degree. In December 2012 he graduated from Andersonville Seminary in Camilla, Ga., with a Doctorate of Ministry degree (Pastoral Leadership).

In addition to his charge as pastor of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Morgan has served as chairman of the Eastern Division Union and moderator of the South Georgia Missionary Baptist Association. He served eight years (2005-2012) as secretary of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. Morgan is also an instructor at the Genesis Bible College of Valdosta. He also is the instructor of a monthly ministers class and a monthly deacons class.  He has also served seven years as a volunteer chaplain at South Georgia Medical Center.

He is married for 44 years to Altamese Hunter Morgan (of the Bronx, New York). They have eight children, six grandsons and a granddaughter.

Morgan and the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church family will be the guest church on Monday. Rev. Castle and the Mother Easter congregation will be in charge of services on Tuesday. Rev. Alfred Jones and Friendship Missionary Baptist Church will conclude the revival on Wednesday night.
