Conference on domestic violence is Friday in Dalton

DALTON, Ga. — The Conasauga Family Violence Alliance and the Northwest Georgia Family Crisis Center present the luncheon “Safety After Separation: The Irony of Leaving an Abuser” on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rock Bridge Community Church. The keynote speaker is April Ross, the senior assistant district attorney for the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office. In April 2014, Ross was shot in the face, arm and back by her estranged husband after she filed for divorce. The attack left her paralyzed from the chest down. Since the shooting, Ross has shared her story, advocating against domestic violence and helping survivors of abusive relationships rebuild their lives. ‘Annie Kids’ rescheduled due to hurricane

MOULTRIE, Ga. — With equal measures of pluck and positivity, Little Orphan Annie has warmed the hearts of audiences all over the country since the first Broadway showing in 1977. Students are once again preparing for their performance of “Annie Kids” after cancellations due to Hurricane Michael. The Colquitt County Arts Center is happy to announce the new schedule: Thursday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday Nov. 3 and 4 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $6 at the Arts Center. Tractor Supply to host Halloween Pet Photo event

LIVE OAK, Fla. — Tractor Supply Company is inviting customers to attend a Halloween Pet Photography event at its Live Oak store. The event will take place Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 207 72nd Trace NE. 

A local photographer will be on site shooting Halloween-themed photos of customers’ four-legged family members and the first 25 customers who get their photo taken will also receive a free magnetic picture frame.

“At Tractor Supply, we understand that your pets aren’t just like family — they are family,” Sonya McKenna, manager of Live Oak Tractor Supply store, said in a release. “That’s why we’re excited for the community to come out and make memories with pets dressed up in their best Halloween costumes.

“Our customers love their furry best friends, and we want to make sure this Halloween is one they won’t forget.” 

In addition to the pet photos, customers will also have the opportunity to enjoy a coloring contest and trick or treating.

Valdosta High holds homecoming events

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta High School homecoming will be held Friday, Oct. 26. 

Valdosta City Schools will have early dismissal Friday to allow for participation and/or celebration in the homecoming parade that starts at 3:30 p.m., school officials said. 

However, school officials urge people to remember lineup begins at 2:30 p.m. for people participating in the parade. 

Dismissal schedule:

Valdosta High School: 12:30 p.m. Friday.

VECA: 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Horne Learning Center: 12:30 p.m. Friday.

Elementary Schools: 1 p.m. Friday.

Middle Schools: 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Each school’s principal will notify parents about early dismissal procedures, school officials said.

Abraham Baldwin Art Show to feature Jordan Walker

TIFTON, Ga. — An art show featuring adjunct professor Jordan Walker will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 in the Bowen Hall Art Gallery at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Dr. Susan Kirby Roe, head of the ABAC Department of Fine Arts, said the community is invited to attend the show and hear remarks from Walker at 5 p.m.  Refreshments will be provided. A native of Ellaville, Walker graduated from Schley County High School before receiving his bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Georgia Southwestern University. He earned his master’s degree in fine arts from Long Island University. An artist and an illustrator with a taste for old literature and a flair for the dramatic, Walker and his paintings have been featured in group exhibitions in New York City and Chicago.
