Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival celebrates 23 years of culture
THOMASVILLE, Ga. — If the Red Hills region of Southern Georgia is known for two things, it’s its reverence for wildlife and a fresh approach to Southern sophistication. For the last 23 years, the Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival (PWAF) has elevated these two cultural cornerstones and offered the entire region a front row seat to the experience. The 2018 PWAF lineup runs through November 18 and boasts nearly a dozen events. At the heart of the festival is the Fine Art Show on November 17 and 18, presented by Synovus, which showcases more than 65 top sporting and wildlife painters, sculptors, carvers, jewelers and artisans. To mark the 23rd year, the show features Brett James Smith, a renowned wildlife oil and watercolor painter, and Chris Maynard, a sculptor who uses feathers as his media of choice. Guests will also enjoy the return of classic favorites like the festival’s Afternoon in the Field concert at Pebble Hill Plantation on Sunday, November 11 with headliner Robert Earl Keen and presented by First Commerce Credit Union, and the lively Bird Dog Bash at Sugar Hill Barn on Saturday, November 17, presented in partnership with Wellington Shields. And for the land and car enthusiast, the THird Annual Red Hills Rover Rally, in partnership with The Wright Group, tours private plantation lands in a curated morning drive which ends at Afternoon In the Field.
For guests who want to try their hand at creating their own work of art, the Women Of Wildlife: Painting Workshop on November 15 and the Creative Covey: Floral Workshop on November 17, both hosted by Ashley Homestore, will most certainly inspire. Many elements of the festival are free and open to the public. For those events where reserved seating or tickets are required please visit PWAF.org/Events.
