Rant and Rave for Nov. 13, 2018

Why is the roundabout dark?
“Why is it the street lights surrounding the roundabout aren’t on when it’s dark? I’ve driven through several times recently at night, and it’s difficult to see anything until you’re right at the intersection. Are all of the lights/bulbs defective? Just wondering.”
Presidents frequently clash with journalists
“You criticize Trump for clashing with journalists. Presidents frequently clash with media outlets. Obama clashed with Fox News in 2009, Bush clashed several times, Clinton clashed with the press in 1993, Carter in the 1970s. So what?
“Journalists don’t have free reign to disrespect any President. They have a revocable Media Pass privilege. You’ll get over it, Sweetie.”
Economy doing well under Trump, not Obama
“The Rant, ‘…if you research the stockmarket, GDP and unemployment rate for the last 10 years … Trump is simply riding the wave…’
“Unemployment decreased dramatically under Trump, GDP soared. Obama addicted 10 million to foodstamps and welfare.
“From 1790 – 2000, American GDP averaged 3.79%, Obama never achieved 3% annually once. Obama’s just jealous of Trump’s wave.”
Government can’t break its addiction to taxes
“So, the FDA plans on banning menthol cigarettes. Soon, the FDA will begin taxing e-cigs heavily because of the tax revenue decline from more cigarette smokers quitting.
“The taxation addicted government cannot withdraw; its addiction to taxes cannot be reduced no matter what. Same old tax and spend liberal government.”
Media doesn’t explain reason for airstrikes
“Saw one media outlet reporting about the Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip Monday evening. Funny, that media outlet failed to report that the Israeli airstrikes were IN RESPONSE TO the 200 rockets fired from Gaza into Israeli settlements over the past few days.
“Funny how that liberal outlet always seems to omit certain pertinent facts.”
More local voices on opinion page is a good thing
“It’s good to see an expanded Rant and Rave. I see articles from many distant states, most of whose authors don’t know anyone locally. Rant and Raves are usually local and mean more to locals than the out of state columns.
“As a veteran, though, I did appreciate the ‘Know the Sacrifice of our Veterans’ article in Sunday’s paper.”
A way schools could raise teachers’ pay
“How about we sell this 3.7 million indoor training facility to the NFL, fire ALL the coaches… And put that money into teacher raises, a tablet for every student and a computer on every student desk!!
“Could fire the board of education and add their wasted payroll to teachers pay as well.”
