Heating assistance available

VALDOSTA – Coastal Plain Area EOA will accept appointment calls for heating assistance for Lowndes County residents Monday, Dec. 3. 

The phone lines are open 24 hours a day, residents may start calling to schedule an appointment 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, or schedule online, state officials said.

Appointments will be taken by telephone or online at http://coastalplain.cascheduler.com until the allotted appointments have been made for December. There will be no appointments made the week of Dec. 24-28, state officials said. 

Lowndes applicants will be seen at the Lowndes County Community Service Center, 900 S. Troup St., and must bring the following: 

• For all household members 18 years old or older: Proof of income for all household members for the past 30 days.

• Proof of Social Security numbers for each person in the household.

• Last/current month’s heating bill for the household.

• For all household members 18 years old or older: Current proof of citizenship or legal immigrant status (state issued picture identification such as driver’s license, ID card, voter registration card, passport, military ID, etc.).

• If receiving SSI, Social Security, pension, VA benefits, the 2018 award letter is required.

If applying for assistance with gas or propane, the current electricity bill is needed.

All applicants must meet the federal income poverty guidelines.

The appointment line will close periodically based on the availability of funds.
