MOULTRIE – Amareyia Knighton scored 25 points and Amira Walters-Smith added 24 as the Colquitt County girls defeated Dougherty 71-56 on Tuesday in Albany.
The victory runs the Lady Packers record to 7-0 to start the season.
It was the second win over the Lady Trojans by the Colquitt County girls, who defeated Dougherty 49-40 on Dec. 7, in the South Georgia vs. Middle Georgia Showcase.
The 71 points were the most scored in a game for the Lady Packers this season and the 49 put up by the two seniors paved the way.
The 25 by Knighton were the most she has scored in a game this season and represented a return to form after an illness limited her playing time in the previous games.
Walters-Smith’s performance marked the fourth game in a row – and fifth in seven games – in which she has scored 20 or more points.
She is now averaging an even 20 points per game.
After the first quarter, the prognosis was not good for a high-scoring game.
The Lady Packers trailed 16-9 after the first eight minutes and Knighton and Walters-Smith each were held to just one basket.
But the Lady Packers exploded to score 24 points in the second quarter to take a 33-30 halftime lead.
Knighton and Walters-Smith each scored eight points in the quarter.
Colquitt also scored 24 in the third quarter as the Lady Packers pulled away. The two high scorers each had 10 points in that quarter.
Sophomore forward Nacardia scored 11 points, Caylnn Singletary added eight and Azaria Battle put in three for the Lady Packers.
Colquitt will travel to Leesburg on Thursday to meet Lee County in the Lee County Showcase.
The Lady Packers also will play in the event on Friday.
