MOULTRIE, Ga. — Breaking up is hard to do, as the old song says. Apparently it can also land you in jail, at least it did for two feuding couples.
On Friday, Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a 266 Railroad St., Berlin, residence.
There, a man attempting to move his belongings out of the residence while his girlfriend was at work was surprised when she returned home.
Thomas Lee Jarrell III told police that as he was loading a third trailer load Katie Larisa Skeen arrived and confronted him inside the house. She flipped over a dresser drawer, he reported, and then ripped his shirt off when he tried to walk away, he said.
Jarrell told police that she hit him in the head multiple times and then threw his dishes to the ground and threw a ceramic bowl at him.
When the officer spoke with Skeen, she told him that when she got home she did rip off Jarrell’s shirt when he tried to walk away from her. At that point, she reported, Jarrell punched her in the face, grabbed her and threw her to the ground.
She told police that she scratched him in an attempt to get away but did not hit him or throw dishes at him.
Jarrell had a bump on both the front and back of the head, police said, multiple scratches and a red mark between his shoulder blades.
Skeen had a “substantially swollen” left eye, police said.
Jarrell, 33, and Skeen, 32, were each charged with battery.
On Saturday an officer standing by while a woman packed her belongings to leave arrested her and her husband after they got into an argument at their 318 Hyde Lane, Norman Park, residence.
According to sheriff’s reports, Ashley and Andrew Allen began arguing over which one would keep their child. The two were using vulgar language in front of the child, police said, and continued to do so after the officer warned them to stop doing so.
The Allens agreed to have the child go to a relative’s residence after the officer arrested them.
Police charged both with disorderly conduct.
Also on Saturday, deputies were dispatched to 3394 Hwy. 33 N. to deal with a similar situation.
When they arrived, Julio Cesar admitted pushing his wife, Norema Lopez, after she threatened to leave with their toddler. Cesar told police that he would not allow her to leave.
Lopez was hesitant to speak with officers police said.
They charged Cesar, 36, with simple battery.
