THOMASVILLE — A 35-year-old man — with a Pavo address and wanted in Chatham County — was captured Friday in Pavo.
Shadrick Denear Hayes, who gave an address of 94 Pear St., Pavo, was a “violent sex predator” and possibly in this area, said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator.
During predawn hours Friday, a U.S. Marshals Service task force and local lawmen went to a County Line Street residence after task force surveillance showed Hayes was there.
“He determined (Mr.) Hayes was staying with relatives,” Watkins said, in reference to a task force member’s surveillance findings.
In addition to U.S. marshals from Savannah and Tallahassee, Florida, an officer from the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, who serves as a task force member, participated in the arrest. Local agencies included the sheriff’s office and Thomas County/Thomasville Narcotics/Vice Division.
Lawmen went to the residence where Hayes was believed to be, but he was not there. He was found a short time later at a house at the rear of the County Line Street residence.
Said Watkins, “He’s been here since December.”
In Chatham County, Hayes is charged with probation violation and failure to register as a sex offender. He also is charged in Thomas County with failure to register as a sex offender.
The suspect remained in the Thomas County Jail Monday afternoon.
