Through an amended motion to the agenda, the city officials approved advertising for a part-time city manager. Following approval, City Attorney Tom Lehman will draft a proposal for the advertisement.

•approval of $300 from recreation fund for spring festival

•approval to seek prices and bids for new stove and floor work for Meigs Community Center

The city council heard an update on the city’s application for the Community Home Investment Program (CHIP) grant. According to Mayor pro tem, Dorothy Wimes the city can receive $306,000 in grant funds.

The prospect of an event center and night club also was discussed.

City Attorney Tom Lehman said the location would fit in the city’s zoning ordinance, but the selling of alcohol would need to be addressed.

“You’re gonna need to have a referendum by sale by the drink,” Lehman said to the council. “There is no place in Meigs that could sell alcohol by the drink.”

The nightclub and event center initially was brought up at the February meeting. No action on the proposed event center and night club was taken.

The council also discussed the prospect of a court clerk.
