City says yes to Sunday sales

THOMASVILLE — Returns from Tuesday’s Thomasville referendum show that voters overwhelmingly approved sales of alcohol by the drink and by the package on Sundays.

With votes from all six precincts, the yes votes to the package sales outnumbered the no votes 731-293, or 71.4 percent of the ballots cast. Yes votes for Sunday sales by the drink outnumbered no votes 746-274, or 73.1 percent of the votes. Vote totals included early votes and absentee ballots.

In early voting, which concluded Friday, city voters approved Sunday package sales by a 333-154 margin and approve Sunday sales by the drink by a 341-145 count.

The earliest Sunday sales of alcohol by the package or by the drink can start is May 1.

Of the city’s 10,759 registered voters, 488 cast their ballots in early voting, or 4.5 percent.
