VALDOSTA, Ga. — Valdosta State University’s Kelsey Dickerson was recently elected to the Georgia College Press Association Board of Directors. Her one-year terms began Feb. 11.
The Georgia College Press Association is comprised of 23 collegiate newspapers. Dickerson is part of a nine-member board that works to assist in the betterment of Georgia collegiate journalism.
“I am so excited about being elected to the board of directors,” Dickerson said. “I would really like to help all the colleges in Georgia with journalism programs to come together for some collaborative news stories.”
Dickerson is the features editor of The Spectator, VSU’s independent student newspaper. She previously served as a staff writer and assistant features editor. She is a member of VSU’s chapter of Her Campus, the national online magazine for college women.
“I love getting to learn about a person and their passion,” she said. “I think that feature stories are really important because they shine a light on a person that deserves to be recognized.”
Dickerson is a regular on the Dean’s List and won third place in the 2016 Georgia College Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest for Best Editorial. She earned a Multimedia Basics certificate from the Poynter Institute. She expects to graduate in May 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis in journalism and an Honors College Certificate. She would like to work for The Atlanta-Journal Constitution.
She is the daughter of Emory and Susan Dickerson of Moultrie.
