VALDOSTA, Ga. — Warm weather and a chance of rain are on the table for South Georgia this week, according to forecasters.
A high-pressure system hovering over the region will give way Tuesday night as a cold front moves through, said Randy Atkins, a meteorologist with the private forecasting firm AccuWeather.
The slow-moving system has already been causing increased cloudiness across South Georgia, said Justin Pollin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s office in Tallahassee, Fla.
When the frontal system arrives, rain chances around Valdosta will increase to 60 percent Tuesday night and Wednesday, according to the weather service forecast.
Rain should be light, with most locations receiving from a quarter to a half-inch of precipitation, Pollin said. Severe weather isn’t expected, with only a few thunderstorms scattered around, both forecasters said.
After the storm system moves through, South Georgia should warm up and dry up, with the next possible storm system not arriving until late Sunday or early Monday, Atkins said.
Daytime highs should range from the mid-70s early in the week to near 80 Friday, Pollin said. The average high for Valdosta for early March is around 71 degrees, Atkins said.
Overnight lows are expected to range from 48 to the upper 50s, according to the weather service forecast.
